  • Chapter hosted second social event at which alcohol was present that was unregistered and to which police responded for unreasonable noise
Charges:
  • Disruptive Behavior: Engaging in behavior that disrupts or interferes with teaching, classroom, or other educational interactions, residential communities, research, administration, governmental functions, or disciplinary proceedings.
  • Violations of any rules, contracts, or agreements governing recognized student organizations
  • Misuse of Alcohol: Use or possession of alcohol as prohibited by law or University policy
Sanctions:
  • Disciplinary Probation through December 6, 2023
  • Loss of Privilege: Restriction on social events until educational sanctions are complete
  • Officer transition plans must be completed and submitted for approval by January 17, 2023
  • Chapter must complete educational program on risk management with 85% of the chapter in attendance by February 24, 2023

Incident Description:

Chapter hosted a series of events in fall 2022 at which alcohol was present (three) that were contacted by law enforcement for unreasonable noise and misuse of alcohol.

  • Alcohol and Drugs Policy, 1: The possession, sale, use or consumption of alcoholic beverages during a
    fraternity or sorority event/council event/co-sponsored function, in any situation sponsored or endorsed by the chapter(s)/council, or at any event an observer would associate with the chapter(s)/council, must be in compliance with any and all applicable federal, state,
    province, county, city, and Colorado State University laws and policies, and must comply with either BYOB or Third Party Vendor Event Procedures, as outlined below. All chapter facilities must be substance free. Substance-free is defined as no alcohol or controlled substance on chapter-owned premises. Under Colorado law, it is illegal for a person under the age of 21 to possess an alcoholic beverage, for a minor to possess a false identification with the intent to violate alcoholic beverages laws, and to provide, furnish, sell, barter, exchange, or give away an alcoholic beverage to a person under age 21.
  • Alcohol and Drugs Policy, 8: No initiated member, pledge, associate, new member or novice shall
    permit, tolerate, encourage, glorify, or participate in activities involving the rapid consumption of alcohol, such as drinking games, during a fraternity or sorority event, council event / co-sponsored function, in any situation sponsored or endorsed by the chapter(s)/council, or at any event an observer would associate with the chapter(s)/council.
  • Preface: All initiated members, new members, and members in holdover states must abide by all federal, state, province, county, city, and Colorado State University regulations, including the Student Conduct Code. This policy became initially effective for all chapters on May 30, 2015, and will be
    enforced by the Colorado State University Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Panhellenic Council (PHC), and Professional Fraternity Council (PFC) through the Joint Judicial Board.

  • Event Policies and Procedures, 1: The possession, sale, use or consumption of alcoholic beverages during a fraternity or sorority event/council event/co-sponsored function, in any situation sponsored or endorsed by the chapter(s)/council, or at any event an observer would associate with the chapter(s)/council, must be in compliance with any and all applicable federal, state, province, county, city, and Colorado State University laws and policies, and must comply with either BYOB or Third Party Vendor Event Procedures, as outlined below.     prohibited. No members, collectively or individually, shall purchase for, serve to, or sell alcoholic beverage to any minor (i.e., those under legal drinking age).
  • Event Policies and Procedures, 7: All recruitment or rush activities associated with any chapter must be nonalcoholic. A recruitment activity may range from one person to many individuals and is not limited to “formal” recruitment events. No recruitment or rush activities associated with any chapter may be held at or in conjunction with a tavern or alcohol distributor, as defined in this policy.
  • Event Policies and Procedures, 8: No initiated member, pledge, associate, new member or novice shall permit, tolerate, encourage, or participate in “drinking games” during a fraternity or sorority event/council event/co-sponsored function, in any situation sponsored or endorsed by the chapter(s)/council, or at any event an observer would associate with the chapter(s)/council.

Interfraternity Council Recruitment Policy

  • There will be no use or possessions of alcohol or other drugs in any recruitment process by affiliated or potential new members. Recruitment parties and other events in which alcohol or other drugs is referenced or present are in direct violation of recruitment policies, the Joint Policy on Risk Management and the University Code of Conduct.
    • Alcohol or other drug references include drinking games and references to alcohol or drugs on recruitment marketing (including shirts).
