Presidents Digest 10.11.19

Greetings Presidents!

We hope you enjoyed Colorados two weeks of fall and are staying warm during this winter weather. The president’s digest is a weekly email full of this week’s updates from our office, councils, chapters, CSU and the community.

By condensing, all these emails that were previously sent to you individually into one weekly presidents digest email, we are reducing the overall amount of correspondence you receive. That makes it even more important for you to read through this information thoroughly to ensure you are aware of all relevant information as well as share it with your chapter as appropriate. As the chapter president, you are responsible for knowing all information contained in this email and sharing it with your membership.

Please ensure you read through the entire Presidents Digest and pass along relevant information and opportunities to officers and/or members. While we know that the digest emails are long, we respect your desire to not receive many, many emails each week and thus condense everything in one message. The tradeoff is the expectation for chapter presidents to be familiar with all the information included. Please also note that we are happy to include updates and announcements from chapters and councils in the digest as well.

    Order of Omega Applications

    • Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for the members of the fraternity and sorority community. Order of Omega recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and involvement within their respective organization and within the fraternity and sorority, campus, and local community. Order of Omega gives high achieving members of our community the opportunity to participate in acts of community service that go above and beyond the requirements of their individual organizational membership. While our chapter organizes several community-wide service events, many of the projects completed by our members are self-directed and reflect their varied interests, passions, and personal service desires.
    • The application can be found here.
    • To be considered for the selection of the Fall 2019 class, please submit your application no later than October 14.
    • For any questions, please email orderofomegacsu.president@gmail.com

    Campus Resources

Encourage members to complete the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) survey:

    • All fraternity and sorority members should have received an email invitation (to their rams email address) to participate in the NCHA survey. We oversample the f/s community on purpose to learn more about health and wellbeing for our members and to better activate around programming and prevention. Having members complete the survey is immensely helpful for our staff and for chapters. The survey is completely anonymous and is not traced back to any person or chapter. There are also several incentives for f/s members that complete the survey. Please encourage members to complete the survey so we can better understand the overall fraternity/sorority experience related to health and wellbeing.

Tap chapter members to consider governing council leadership:

    • IFC, MGC, PHA, and PFC will be electing/slating new council officers this semester. Consider outstanding students and emerging leaders in the chapter you advise and encourage them to apply for council leadership. It is a great way to get involved, connect across the community, and impact change. More information about council leadership can be found at: https://fsl.colostate.edu/council-executive-board-application/

    Updates on Community Programming:

    • As many of you know, our office was working to bring a community speaker to campus on November 4, 2019 to discuss the history of racism in the fraternity and sorority community and opportunities for members to engage. Based on conversations with campus partners about the volume of programming occurring in October and early November, we have decided to move our community speaker to next semester. We will share additional information and the date of the program in the coming weeks.
      • Although our community speaker will take place in the spring there are still many opportunities to engage in campus programming about diversity, equity and inclusion. We will include such opportunities in this digest weekly.
      • 2019 Diversity Symposium
        • The 2019 Diversity Symposium will be held October 14 – 18th in the Lory Student Center.  CSU is proud this year to offer a full week line-up of sessions and speakers with a multitude of relevant and engaging diversity and inclusion-oriented topics for both campus and the wider community.
        • Additional Information about the Diversity Symposium is included in the CSU Updates section below.   *View the Full Schedule
