Advisor Memo 9.24.19

On behalf of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, we want to thank you for serving as a fraternity/sorority advisor. To support in your advising efforts, an advisor memo will be sent out three times a semester. This memo is intended to share community happenings, campus resources, and advisor engagement opportunities.

The advisor memo is sent to advisors serving in a primary capacity as alumni/chapter advisors or faculty/staff advisors. Anyone wishing to be added to our monthly memo listserv should email amanda.taylor@colostate.edu.

What’s happening in the F/S Community?

  • National Hazing Prevention Week; September 23-27, 2019
    • Colorado State University and the f/s community will observe National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW) September 23-27, 2019. NHPW is an opportunity for campuses, organizations, and individuals to come together and talk about hazing and promote the prevention of hazing.

What’s happening in the CSU community?

  • CSU Homecoming & Family Weekend; October 2-6, 2019
    • CSU will be kicking-off the celebration of its 150th anniversary during this year’s Homecoming & Family Weekend, occurring October 2-6, 2019. To view the full list of university sponsored Homecoming and Family Weekend events, please click here.
    • The Fraternity & Sorority Programming Board will be hosting a few events to celebrate CSU’s Homecoming. View the full list of events here.

Colorado State University: End Hazing Website

    • CSU’s End Hazing website provides hazing prevention resources, information about how to identify hazing, and hosts a online form to report hazing to university administrators. View the End Hazing website here.

Support & Safety Assessment: Tell Someone

    • If you have concerns about a members displaying signs of distress (i.e. references to violence, change in behavior, change in mood), consider completing a Tell Someone online referral form or calling 970.491.1350 to communicate your concerns directly to Support & Safety Assessment. Advisor Engagement

Fall Advisor Meeting

    • All alumni/chapter and faculty/staff advisors are invited to attend the fall meeting occurring on Monday, September 30, 2019 in LSC, room 376 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The fall meeting will serve as a space for advisors to build community, engage in dialogue about their advising experience, and receive community updates from OFSL staff. If you haven’t already, please be sure to RSVP by emailing Amanda Taylor at amanda.taylor@colostate.edu.

MGC & NPHC National Hazing Prevention Advisor Workshop

    • Do your advise a chapter within the Multicultural Greek Council or the National Pan-Hellenic Council? If so, we invite you to attend the National Hazing Prevention Week Advisor Workshop occurring October 7, 2019 in LSC 300 at 5:30 p.m. Michelle Guobadia, facilitator of the workshop and member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., will discuss signs of hazing in culturally based groups and how advisors of can intervene.  If you plan on attending this workshop, please RSVP by emailing Amanda Taylor at amanda.taylor@colostate.edu.

Order of Omega Applications

  • Order of Omega is fraternal honorary that recognized juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and involvement within their respective organization and within the fraternity and sorority, campus, and local community. Applications can be found here and are due on October 14, 2019.
